What’s in Your Pole Barn Kit?

Ask yourself this: Do you need a cheap way to build a storage unit that will last as long as you need it? Then a pole barn kit may be the answer for you. A pole barn kit has everything that you need to a pole barn with, and some even include tools. With the variety possible in a pole barn kit, your biggest question will be what kind of pole barn do you need, and where are you building.

As pole barns have moved well past their humble beginnings, construction methods have kept up. A good sign of this was the creation of the pole barn kit. A collection of parts that will eventually a pole barn, the pole barn kit has almost everything that you need to build it. You may still need to provide part f it, however, so see what parts are missing.

Cement is the most common missing ingredient, so make sure that you have a way to mix it, pour it, and limit it to where it is supposed to be, as cement can get in places you’d rather it not. The biggest problem will be renting the mixer; some places prefer that you have experience with the equipment, and will offer the services of someone who can do it professionally. Do not be afraid to hire someone to do it; the foundation is extremely important, and is arguably the one thing you shouldn’t skimp on.

Another potential issue with your pole barn kit is the tools. Some kits are made to be put together with the absolute minimum number of tools, and so limit themselves to a hammer, a screwdriver, and pliers. However, others need a number of tools to properly assemble; it’s not that they are trying to be difficult, but that the kit is just more advanced. Thus, check out what tools your kit requires even as you buy it.

Also, and this is important, don’t forget to buy some beer. No matter how skilled you are, you most likely won’t be able to build it yourself, and will need some help. Even if you don’t, an extra pair of hands and eyes is always nice to have. Once you’ve built your pole barn kit, you will need the beer to celebrate. Don’t forget the barbecue, while you’re at it.

An obvious caveat: When you buy a pole barn kit, check it out thoroughly and ensure that everything is there. Although this may sound obvious, too many people are in a rush to get building and forget to check off the pole barn kit’s inventory. Also, make sure that you have the right tools; not only may you need tools you don’t have, it is possible that your kit is in metric and you are use standard, or vice versa. This has the potential to cause frustration, wasted gas, and more trips to the home supply store. When you buy your pole barn kit, just remember that looking it over is a good thing.
